ENTERTAINMENT: FOX & HBO MOST GAY-FRIENDLY TV STATIONS
The 16th annual survey by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), shows that LGBT characters make up 2.9% of of regulars on broadcast networks, which unfortunately is down from last year’s report of 3.9%. Due to very gay-friendly shows like Glee (which I love btw!!), Fox has bumped ABC from to top with 6.8% or 8 out of 117 characters being LGBT. Dropping from 7.2% last year to 3.4% this year, ABC still managed to come in second.
HBO with uber gay-friendly shows like True Blood topped the list of cable networks with 11 LGBT characters. Showtime comes in a close second with 10 total characters. HBO’s True Blood and Showtime’s Shameless both are both tied for the most LGBT in any show on both cable or broadcast with 6 in each.
Keep up the good work, Fox and HBO! Let’s try to up it next year.
ENTERTAINMENT: A THIRD GAY WARBLER SET TO JOIN GLEE!
It looks like the honeymoon is over for Kurt and Blaine.
Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that Glee has tapped up-and-coming theater actor Grant Gustin to play the recurring role of Sebastian, a gay Dalton Academy Warbler who sets his sights on Blaine.
Both Fox and the show’s producers declined to comment, but the buzz is that Sebastian is the polar opposite of Kurt in every possible way. He’s more like the male version of Santana in that he’s both promiscuous and kinda-sorta scheming.
“He’s our villain this season,” an insider tells me. “It’s a major role.”
Consider yourself warned, Kurt.
Glee producers found Gustin — whose credits include playing Baby John in the national tour of West Side Story — after an exhaustive, weeks-long casting search.
He’s slated to turn up in this season’s fifth episode.
Sebastian’s arrival at McKinley marks the third gay (and fifth LGBT) character on the Glee campus. Do you find this a positive stride in increasing LGBT awareness through pop culture — or are you just bummed that “Klaine”, everyone’s favorite TV gay couple, is going to hit a road bump?
GAY NEWS: GAY SENATOR LEADING THE FIELD IN IRELAND'S PRESIDENTIAL RACE
After withdrawing from the Irish presidential race in August due to a sex scandal, Sen. David Norris has made an extraordinary comeback and is now back in the running. Norris changed his mind after what he calls “overwhelming public support” and as a result was able to get his name back on the ballot. Despite running against a record 7 other candidates in the October 27th election, the openly gay senator is still viewed as the frontrunner with a weekend opinion poll showing him with 21% support. If Sen. Norris wins, it would make him the first openly gay president of the Republic of Ireland. Who knows, with a gay head of state on top (no pun intended) maybe the rest of the world will follow their lead. Thoughts?
GAY NEWS: Pope Trying to Stop Gay Marriage in Germany
This past week, Pope Benedict went around Europe trying to rally support against gay marriages. He spoke to officials from other religions and tried to convince them that marriage was between a man and a woman. UHHHH WHAT?! There are many problems in this world, love should NOT be one of them. Luckily, the people of Madrid and Berlin felt the same way and nearly 9,000 protesters took to the streets in each city!!
Many people were angered in the fact that the Pope is concerning himself with this issue rather than ohhh how about, CHILD SEX ABUSE!! He is ignoring this actual problem and advises others to do the same. Who can forget the Arizona scandal when the Pope told an Arizona Bishop to hide an ongoing investigation, in which the bishop was was accused of molesting young boys.
Gay marriage isn’t a problem. Stop trying to make it one and deal with the real problems in this world. What are your thoughts on this issue??
This past weekend, Lady Gaga paid about $38,500 to attend a fundraising event that Obama was at. She was shaken over the suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14 year old boy who was bullied for being gay, and wants to stop the bullying!!
She stood up and thanked Obama for what he has done so far, but then requested he do more to stop the bullies!! Obama pointed out some of the progress that has been made so far, and the two were seen later discussing the same issue.
Lady Gaga thinks that bullying “must become illegal. It is a hate crime”. I AGREE! Do you???
As most of you have probably heard, some very upsetting things happened at the GOP Presidential Debates last week. The audience booed and made of fun of a currently deployed soldier. Stephen Hill is in Iraq right now, but was jeered at because he is gay. WTH.
President Obama was just as shocked as the rest of us concerning the audience’s reaction and while at a fundraiser in California earlier today, he condemned those at the debate.
"You’ve got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don’t have healthcare. And booing a service member in Iraq because they’re gay. That’s not reflective of who we are."
AGREED!! How can people be so ignorant!? What do you guys think of Obama’s reaction?
Who didn’t love the movie Bridesmaids?! It was seriously hilarious and is out on DVD! So now, you can watch your favorite scenes all the time! Ok, my favorite scenes were definitely when the girls are having “digestive” problems while dress shopping (LOL) and the debacle at the engagement party!!
The DVD has so many more clips and deleted scenes and this one is a winner. If you recall, Kristen Wiig has an argument with a young girl (Mia Rose Frampton) at the jewelry store..which was SO funny anyway, but this extended version is amazing!! TEN minutes of hilarity! Get ready to laugh your ass off!
ENTERTAINMENT: PLAYBOY CLUB STAR COMES OUT OF CLOSET AND TELLS ALL
Sean Maher, a former actor on Firefly for the sake of his acting career chose to stay in the closet. However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly he finally comes clean and out of the closet. Ironically Maher also plays a closeted gay man on the new show Playboy Club.
Maher is the father to 2 children with his partner and tells EW that being in the closet was “so exhausting, and I was so miserable.” Publicists who worked with him assumed he was straight and out of fear, he chose not to tell them otherwise. Even when coming out to his agent he remembers being told “All the more reason to get a girl on your arm… It’s best if you keep your options open. Maybe bisexual?”
After being in the closet for 14 years, why the sudden change of heart now? Maher states that having a family is what made him want to be honest about his sexuality. Maher’s character on the show Playboy Club is coincidentally named Sean and is married to a lesbian Playboy Bunny. Maher recalls “I was like, This is perfect. I want to do this, and I want to use it as a platform to come out.” Maher continues “It never would have been allowed five years ago. It feels so liberating.”
We’re all glad to finally have you out of the closet, Sean. Keep an eye out for his new show Playboy Club which airs on Mondays at 10/9c
ENTERTAINMENT: "PLAYBOY CLUB" EXEC TALKS ABOUT "GAY THEMES"
In an interview with E! Online, Playboy Club executive producer Chad Hodge addressed controversial “gay themes on the show.”
What do you think the reaction is going to be toward the gay themes in the show? I hope people really like it. Homosexuality is great. Playboy was a big part of the sexual revolution; some would say it was part of the beginning of the sexual revolution. Sexuality is a big part of it and homosexuality is a part of the discussion when you’re talking about sexuality, so I think that fits into the wheelhouse of the show. The design of that storyline didn’t come from me wanting to tell a story about the history of the gay movement; it came from the character of Alice (Leah Renee Cudmore), who I wanted to be a closet lesbian and married to a gay man—a sort of marriage of convenience—and the story came from that.
How much research did you do on the Mattachine Society?
I’ve been writing for HBO on a movie about Anita Bryant. So that is steep in gay history, and one of the things I came across while doing research for that movie was the Mattachine Society. I’m gay, and the earliest history I was really aware of was Stonewall, and this is way before that. This is an underground political organization of gay people in the ’50s and ’60s who were trying to figure out how their voice could be heard, and find other people like them.
Have you seen the Playboy Club yet? Do you think it sends a positive or negative message about gays in the 60s?
GAY NEWS: ELTON JOHN MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT HIMSELF, "ROCKETMAN"
Famous musician Elton John and his partner David Furnish are reportedly working on creating Sir Elton’s biopic, Rocketman. The film has already been written by Lee Hall, a past collaborator on Billy Elliot.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the flick will document the highs and lows of Sir Elton’s career through “musical sequences.”
"We’ve always thought there was a wonderful cinematic opportunity to tell Elton’s life story," Furnish told EW.
"But we wanted to wait until the time was exactly right. Elton feels very excited about doing it now. He’s in a very happy place in life right now and thinks it’s a good time to artistically reflect on the past."
We can’t help but think though, how accurate can a biopic be if it’s created by its’ subject? Some heavy editing is probably going down.
The above shot is from Britney’s new “Criminal" video, getting her Bonnie and Clyde on with beau Jason Trawick. In the vid, the couple runs from a convenience store after robbing it, while Britney clutches a pretty old-school looking fake-pistol.
But now the pop queen is in hot water with local politicians. Even though they got permission to shoot there, they didn’t get permission to brandish fake fire arms.
The Hackney Council (where the vid was shot) is demanding an apology from Britney for her insensitivity—you see, she was waving her pistol around in an area that was involved in the London Riots.
"I think she should apologize and make a sizable donation to a Hackney charity that deals with young people…for the rudeness and damage she’s done to this community," city councilor Ian Rathbone told ITV’s news show London Tonight.
What do you think? Overreaction or Overstep on Britney’s part?
FASHION ALERT: INSANE CHICK TRIES TO SELL TARGET BOOTS FOR $31K
Yeah, we’re really excited about the Missoni for Target line too. But one crazy woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma is trying to sell a pair of Missoni for Target rainboots on eBay for $31,000. The problem: they retail for $34.99. WTF.
Tammy Lyn explained to CNN Money that she’s trying to raise money for her daughter’s college fund. “We have lived frugally and have some savings, but like most Americans, it’s just not enough to cover college, retirement, and life at this point.”
Reportedly, she’s also hoarded other Missoni for Target items to sell later.
Bristol Palin is under fire after what some are a calling homophobic comments on an episode of her reality show last week.
In response to slams against her mom, Sarah Palin’s eldest daughter asked a fellow bar-goer if he was “a homosexual.”
According to her reps, it was “just a question.”
"She was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother," her rep told E! News.
"Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family."
Granted, she was provoked. It all went down at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood. 20-year-old Stephen Hanks yelled at Bristol as she rode a mechanical bull, “Did you ride Levi like that? Your mother’s a whore!”
Bristol responded: "Is it because you’re a homosexual…and that’s why you hate her?"
Her reps said that was the end of the night.
"The situation ended with no incident," her rep said, "and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views."

At the “iHeartRadio” festival over the weekend, Gaga paid tribute to Jamey Rodemeyer. He was only 14-years-old when he was found dead outside of his parents’ home last week, having taken his own life after persistent bullying. He had cited Gaga as an inspiration while he was alive.
"I wanted to take a minute, because, I don’t know if any of you know this, but we lost a Little Monster," she said to the crowd. "I wanted to dedicate this song to him tonight because he was really young."
As she began playing her single “Hair,” she said, “I wrote this record about how your identity’s all you’ve got when you’re in school…Jamey, I know you’re up there looking down on us. And you’re not a victim, you’re a lesson to all of us. So tonight, I know it’s a bit of a downer, but sometimes the right thing’s more important than the music isn’t it? Let’s do this for him - for Jamey.”
Jamey Rodemeyer recently killed himself after being bullied at school and online for being gay. Reportedly, some of the bullies even said, “I wouldn’t care if you died. No one would. So just do it. It would make everyone way happier.” Ugh.
This video, the “Paws Up Forever Project,” is dedicated to Rodemeyer and aims to prevent bullying and teen suicide. 150 of gaga’s little monsters from all around the globe are all pleading “Make a Law For Jamey.” It’s pretty powerful stuff; in the first half, the group, lead by Jason Bring, Sara Nazeman and Ines Andersen-Mitchell, describe how much pain a suicidal teen would be inflicting on their families—and how horrible it would be to go through life without them.
"Countdown" is officially the third single off of Beyonce’s album "4."
Check out the lyrics:
“My baby is a 10 / We dressing to the 9 / He pick me up we 8 / Make me feel so lucky / He kiss me in his 6 / We be making love at 5 / Still the one I do this 4 / I’m tryna make us 3 / From that 2 / He still the 1.”
"4" has admittedly been not as successful as Beyonce’s previous albums—do you think this track will save her?
It’s a controversy spreading like wildfire around the blogosphere—we’ve all seen Indian actress Freida Pinto in Slumdog millionaire. So fans were surprised when she was appearing, well, rather pale in a new L’oreal ad.
So far no response from the makeup giant. But they’ve been accused of “whitewashing” their celeb endorsers before: Beyonce, anyone?
GAY ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: GLEE'S GAY COUPLE REUNITES AT SCHOOL
Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson broke the mold of usual teen-TV protagonist couples when they met on the Season Two episode of Glee, Never Been Kissed. Kurt told Mr. Schue he was in love with Blaine in A Very Glee Christmas. They began dating since Original Song when they shared their first kiss. They are currently together. In New York, Blaine told Kurt that he loved him, and after a slight delay, a shocked Kurt told Blaine he loved him too. In The Purple Piano Project, Blaine transferred to McKinley to be with Kurt because he can’t stand being away from the person he loves (Kurt).
In the past, Glee has covered sensitive topics such as gay bullying and peer acceptance. Hopefully, the show will continue being progressive with Kurt and Blaine’s relationship throughout season 3.
A well-known sperm bank is saying “No” to more ginger sperm donors. Ole Schou, the director of the sperm bank explained:
“There are too many redheads in relation to demand. I do not think you chose a redhead, unless the partner – for example, the sterile male – has red hair, or because the lone woman has a preference for redheads. And that’s perhaps not so many, especially in the latter case.”
Poor Gingers. Can they catch a break? In ancient Egypt they were burned to death and Greek mythology says redheads become vampires when they die (sidenote: if this gets me closer to Robert Pattinson, I’m all for it.) And with their mutated MCR1 gene, they need more sedation during surgery (ouch).
But it’s not all so bad. We can name at least 3 red-hot Gingers.
3) Paul Bettany
Granted, Paul’s more on the strawberry side of red. But his body is certainly drool-worthy.
2) Simon Woods
Remember Mr. Bingley from Keira Knightley’s P&P? His red mop doth beckons us.
1) Prince Harry
As if there’s any other. Please note: HE’S STICKING HIS HAND DOWN HIS PANTS.
Read more here. Can you think of any more Gingers we’ve missed?
GAY NEWS: LADY GAGA ASKS TO MEET WITH OBAMA AFTER BULLIED TEEN'S SUICIDE
The news of Jamey Rodemeyer’s suicide on Sunday sent shockwaves throughout the LGBT community and has left many people demanding that bullying be addressed as a federal issue. In fact, Lady Gaga was so shaken by the news she’s called for a meeting with President Obama to discuss introducing laws that would qualify bullying as a hate crime.
Rodemeyer’s parents said their son was taunted for months at school and online for being gay, but they thought he had begun to rise above the hate. The 14-year-old even posted an “It Gets Better” video in May, encouraging other LGBT teens to stay strong.
In the video, Rodemeyer named Lady Gaga as one of his inspirations. “She makes me so happy,” he said. She lets me know that I was born this way and that’s my advice to you from her. You were born this way. All you have to do is hold your head up and you’ll go far.”
Gaga tweeted about her anger and sadness over Rodemeyer’s death on Wednesday, sayaing, “The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someones life.” Soon after, the singer followed up by posting Rodemeyer’s “It Gets Better” video and insisting that bullying be defined as “a hate crime.”
Now, Gaga appears to be backing up her words with action. Her latest tweet on the issue read, “I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it.”
MTV says that a spokesperson for the White House couldn’t confirm at press time if an official meeting between Gaga and President Obama had been set up to discuss the issue.
CURRENT EVENTS: GAY SOLDIER BOOED AT REPUBLICAN DEBATE
"Don’t Ask Don’t Tell" was only repealed this week, but it seems the hate just keeps on coming.
At the Republican Presidential Debate at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, this video was shown of Stephen Hill, a gay soldier serving in Iraq. In the video, Hill asked a question of Rick Santorum about his position on gays in the military:
“In 2010, when I was deployed to Iraq I had to hide who I was because I’m a gay soldier and I didn’t want to lose my job. My question is: Under one of you presidencies, do you intend to circumvent the progress that’s been made for gay & lesbian soldiers in the military?”
After the video was shown the crowd at the debate started jeering and booing. Santorum didn’t boo, but some critics say he may as well have. He said if elected president he would make it a priority to reinstate the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy.
What do you think? Is booing to be expected in emotionally-charged debates? Or was this instance just down right inappropriate?
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: MORE KIDS IN THE WORKS FOR GAY MODERN FAMILY COUPLE
Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson has confirmed that future episodes will explore whether Mitchell and Cameron, the show’s resident gay couple, will have another baby. At the end of the second season, the duo agreed to consider expanding their family.
"A lot of people have to look to alternate means to expand their family - straight and gay couples," he said. "There are a lot of ways to do that, whether it be with a surrogate or my partner’s sperm in my sister’s uterus, which could happen. I’m not saying it’s a storyline, but it might be something they explore. Wouldn’t that be hilarious?"
Ferguson clarified that it is “not a done deal” that Mitchell and Cameron will have another baby but added: “I think this season will be about their struggle how to do that, and how my character is maybe not as comfortable having a son because he’s not the most masculine of people.”
Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old boy from Williamsville, NY, took his life Sunday after what his parents claim was years of bullying because of struggles with his sexuality.
In the wake of their loss, the Rodemeyers hope to carry on a message of anti-bullying and acceptance.
Jamey’s father said, “To the kids who are bullying they have to realize that words are very powerful and what you think is just fun and games isn’t to some people, and you are destroying a lot of lives.”
Jamey’s mother, Tracy Rodemeyer, misses her son, but hopes the loss can still be used to teach a message of tolerance. “It took him away from our family way too early and we’re just convinced that he had a purpose on this planet and it was to touch as many people as he could.”
According to NBC, the Rodemeyers had gone to the school about the problem in the past. Jamey even sought counseling to learn to deal with the problem, but it seems it wasn’t enough.
But through all the bullying, Jayme remained outwardly optimistic until the end. “That’s all you have to do. Just love yourself and you’re set. And I promise you, it’ll get better.”
When Chuck kissed a boy in season three, you knew it was just the beginning.
One of the main character’s on CW’s Gossip Girl is going gay in season 5. E Online broke the news today…and now the question is, who will it be?
Could it be the sexually adventurous Dan (remember his three-way with Hilary Duff and Jessica Szohr?) Or maybe the prep-tastic Nate is ready to break out of his shell? Perhaps it’s Chuck—one taste just wasn’t enough.
Bisexuals. It’s a label that can cause great controversy among gay and straight folk alike. Some people believe they’re like unicorns—mythic creatures living in a magical land of rainbows as long as it suits their sexual needs; or, to put it more bluntly, they think these people are gay, but they don’t want to admit it to themselves. Others suspect it varies between the sexes: Women are more sexually fluid and can go both ways without necessarily falling into either camp, while men are more rigid in their “gay” or “straight” identification. Indeed, researchers at Northwestern University published a study in 2005that stated “with respect to sexual arousal and attraction, it remains to be shown that male bisexuality exists.”
Needless to say, if you’re a self-identified bisexual man, these statements can really piss you off.
Entertainment News: Kelly Clarkson Premieres New Single "Mr. Know It All"
"Mr. Know It All", Kelly Clarkson’s first single off her upcoming fifth studio album Stronger, has hit the internet. Stronger is released on October 25th.
MTV reports: “The track was written by Brett James (who has a country pedigree, having written for Carrie Underwood), Ester Dean (Beyoncé, Usher) and Dante Jones. Brian Kennedy (Chris Brown, Rihanna, Backstreet Boys) also co-wrote and produced the track.”
