Gay News: School Just Started and They're Already Banning "GAY" T-shirts
Hoover High School student Sara Couvillon wanted to wear a shirt that said, “Gay? Fine By Me.” The school said that wearing it could put Couvillon’s safety at risk (even though she wore it plenty of times without any problems the year before). And even if a student did start trouble over her shirt, why not punish that student instead of denying Couvillon her right to free speech? So naturally the Southern Poverty Law Center has threatened the school with legal action. We’d be more interested if we hadn’t heard this tale before:
Last night, Lady Gaga hosted MTV’s annual Video Music Awards Ceremony as her male alter ego Jo Calderone. The evening was marked by some amazing fashion moments, as well as some that left you saying WTF?! Amidst all the HOT MESS that accompany the VMA’s, Britney Spears received MTV’s Video Vanguard award, the network’s highest honor for an artist, Bruno Mars, Tony Bennett, and Russell Brand all paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, and Katy Perry & Adelle walked away with the most moon men - but it was BEYONCE (of course) who stole the show with the announcement of her pregnancy and an AMAZING performance that ended with the glowing performer showcasing her baby bump for all to see. *Clap Clap Bravo* for Beyonce and her husband Jay Z on their new addition and an extra special *Snap* for doing it the right way: dating, marriage, THEN the little monster! We can’t wait to see who the baby takes after more!!
Current Events: Anti-Gay PR Senator Resigns After Photos Surface on Grindr
(San Juan, Puerto Rico) A Puerto Rico lawmaker has resigned following reports that explicit photos of him surfaced on Grindr, an iPhone application for gays and bisexuals, the head of the U.S. territory’s Senate announced Sunday.
Sen. Roberto Arango, a Republican who represents the capital of San Juan for the island’s governing party, presented his letter of resignation after a weekend meeting, Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz said.
Local news media published photos from the application showing a man’s nude upper body with a cell phone obscuring his face. Another photo showed a rear view of a nude man on his hands and knees. Another showed a fuzzy image of a face that seemed to match Arango’s. Arango has neither confirmed nor denied suggestions by local media that the photos might be of him and apparently was not asked if he had posted them. During a recent interview with WAPA TV in Puerto Rico, the senator said he has taken pictures of himself with a cell phone to document his recent weight loss.”I really don’t remember having taken those pictures of myself, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t take them,” he told the station. “I really don’t remember.”
In recent days, Puerto Rican Gov. Luis Fortuno had said that if the man was indeed a legislator, he should resign. That echoed the sentiments of other lawmakers, including local House Speaker Jenniffer Gonzalez.
Gay News: Video Game Allows Same-Sex Marriage: "Not a Huge Deal"
Same-sex marriage is allowed in the world of the video game The Elder Scrolls V. Skyrim, but the creators are not making a “huge deal out of it.”
Escapist magazine reports the game’s publicist Pete Himes released the information via Twitter. When someone remarked, “The subject seems hush hush,” Hines replied, “Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone.”
He later tweeted, “Sorry, should clarify. Not any NPC, just mean any male or female. Doesn’t matter what you’re playing.”
Skyrim will be released on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on November 11.
It must unofficially be the day that all the divas release their music videos for new singles. First, Beyoncé premieres 1+1. Then, Rihanna tweets that Cheers is out and about. Now, Leona Lewis has released the video for her controversial dance floor single Collide. I have to admit that I didn’t like the track at first, but slowly, it has grown on me.
The video is quite visually stunning. Leona and her buddies hit the beach for some fun in the sun. As her friends run into the ocean’s water, Leona watches from a towel with some other girlfriends. As the chorus drops, we see people in the water “colliding” with the waves. Get it? Leona looks beautiful too as she stands in the surf, the wind blowing her beautiful dress. Check out the video below.
It’s kind of something fans of Apple saw coming for a long time now. Yesterday afternoon, Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple and effective immediately per his request, Tim Cook who is the current COO will take his place for the time being. Cook has filled Jobs’ shoes before when Steve went on an extended medical leave. In a letter to the board of directors at the Apple Community, Steve wrote the following:
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

“As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple. I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.” – Steve

Entertainment News: Lady Gaga to Cheer Up The Simpsons
Grammy-winner Lady Gaga may just find some more little monsters in Springfield soon. Yeardley Smith, who plays Lisa Simpson, told Broadway.com that Gaga will be guest-starring on The Simpsons’ upcoming season.
“This is extraordinary!” Smith said. “I’m stunned that she has time in her schedule that she’s coming to our studio to record. She’s playing herself, and [The Simpsons’ writers] describe her as the happiest, most optimistic person in the world. She comes to Springfield to try to cheer up Lisa, but she can’t.”
Gaga’s animated alter ego previously appeared on the series as Elton John’s Golden Globes award ceremony date, but it wasn’t voiced by the “Born this Way” singer.
Enterainment News: Lady Gaga and Cher duet 'The Greatest Thing' coming in September: Sample Gaga's demo here!
The release of a much-anticipated collaboration between Lady Gaga and Cher—a song titled “The Greatest Thing,” written by Gaga and producer RedOne—is just around the corner: Yesterday, in response to a follower’s query about when the song would be out, Cher tweeted simply, “SEPTEMBER.” Here’s an appropriate response: Praise divas!
“The Greatest Thing” is set to be the lead single from Cher’s 26th studio album, which has been in the works for quite some time now. Last year, the superstar told EW that she was working with Diane Warren, the legendary songwriter behind Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” and two tunes from Burlesque, including Cher’s power ballad “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”
“It really won’t be ‘Believe’-ish,” she said of the album at that early stage. “It will be more…I don’t know how to say it. I can’t put a genre to it. It’s a little bit more real instruments, like guitars and stuff like that.” As recently as June, Cher tweeted that her new, still untitled album will be “WAY DANCE.” (Could that be the title? Ha.)
No official release date has been set for the album or the single yet, but you can sleep soundly knowing that a sure-to-be-delicious diva collaboration—and a diva comeback!—is coming soon. Consider it your gift for being so good this summer.
Curious about “The Greatest Thing” and what it might sound like? You’re in luck, since a demo version of the song, sung in full by only Gaga, is on the nets. It sounds sort of “Believe”-ish, if you ask me. Enjoy it here:

A Florida-based teacher named Jerry Buell has been suspended from the classroom and reassigned while the Lake County School Board investigates Facebook messages in which he said he “almost threw up” when he heard about New York’s marriage equality, which he also said was part of a “cesspool.”
Remember when the Sugababes debuted in the early millennium with their single Overload? Well those three babes have all since left the group and now, the third line-up of ladies has released their newest video for their single Freedom. While it doesn’t compare to their tracks of yesteryear, it definitely could find a place on my iPod.
The video is pretty sexy itself. It seems like the girls have found themselves in a hot and steamy club. While the trio belts out their vocals about freedom, the rest of the club gets sexy and feels each other up and share a kiss or two.

Do you remember when you were still in the closet? Do you remember the feelings of wishing everyone knew about your sexuality that way you wouldn’t have to go through the nervousness, secrets, and lies about your sexuality? Putting the pieces together of sexuality, is like putting pieces together of a puzzle. You know what the outcome is, but you don’t want to give it away at one time.
These pieces is what makes us a whole. The pieces of nervousness, unknowing, questions, and curiosity are all bits of pieces that can help us come out..to admit to our moms that no, we are not straight…
What do you think? Did you have to come out in pieces?

Lady Gaga has finally returned to form. After some visually pleasing but generally lackluster videos, she has finally come out with something to write home about. “You and I” is arguably the best song on her sophomore release, “Born This Way,” and now has a video to match. (And, before you complain, — “Edge of Glory” doesn’t count because it wasn’t a Gaga event as it was Gaga being demure — well as demure as she can be. Plus it was only because the Lady got to go into Versace’s archive.)
(Mexico City) Mexico City has marked its 1,000th same-sex marriage since lawmakers in the capital approved such unions in March 2010.
The city government says in a statement that about 6 percent of those getting married in same-sex weddings in the city are foreigners.
Officials had predicted an influx in tourism when they enacted the first law in Latin America explicitly allowing same-sex marriages.
The first 1,000 weddings involved 548 gay couples and 452 lesbian pairs. About 85 percent of the marriages were between partners age 31 and older. Mexico’s average marriage age is 28 for men and 25 for women.
The 1,000th wedding took place Sunday, uniting a 37-year-old Mexican university researcher and a 29-year-old Dutch man.

Current Events: Are There Too Many Gay Characters On TV? Some Conservative Groups Think So.
It seems there is a war on gay characters in the television industry. Religious conservatives are blasting GLAAD, claiming the group is strong-arming networks into broadcasting gay-inclusive programming.
Earlier this week GLAAD released its Network Responsibility Index (NRI). The group gave high marks to ABC Family for positively depicting the lives of LGBT characters on shows like “Pretty Little Liars” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
The report studied the quality, quantity and diversity of images of gay and lesbian people on five broadcast networks and 10 major cable networks.
The Media Research Center’s Culture and Media Institute (CMI) criticized GLAAD, saying television executives feel forced to feature gay and lesbian characters.
“Note to TV networks: Don’t even think about downsizing the disproportionate airtime you give gay characters and issues. The bean-counters at GLAAD are watching,” the group wrote. “So if it seems that you can’t flip through the channels today without running across gay characters or story lines, you’re right. You can’t. And GLAAD’s there to make sure of it.”
Dwayne Hastings, vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission claims Americans are being manipulated by GLAAD through the entertainment industry.
“For families who seek to follow Christ and earnestly live out their faith, there is nothing happy in this report,” Hastings said. “Those who push for so-called homosexual rights and lobby for same-sex interests … have a powerful ally with deep pockets in the entertainment industry who are more than willing to use their media to recast the homosexual lifestyle as normative.”
What do you guys think? Even though I personally believe the amount of gay characters in television continue to increase, it doesn’t bother me. If anything, it adds so much more character and color to the plots that were originally hetero-affiliated.
The 30-second promo interlaces Spears’ latest hit “I Wanna Go” with her own “Slave 4 U,” Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Madonna’s “Everybody” as dancers dressed in Brit’s most-famous outfits crowd around her. There’s also a nod to Michael Jackson, with a poster on the wall that says “Billy Jean,” in reference to MJ’s hit “Billie Jean,” and a dancer who mimics the late King of Pop’s iconic moves. At the end of the promo, Spears stands in front of a wall that cryptically reads “A Tribute to Britney Spears” before the date of the VMAs — 8.28 — flashes on the screen.
The promo pulls from Spears’ own musical influences from over the years, which is portrayed through the set design, wardrobe and, of course, through Brit herself.
What do you think of Britney’s VMA promo? Let us know in the comments!

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Gay Superheroes on the Horizon?
Its a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s a gay superhero in tights?
With all the hype of all the new Marvel and superhero-ic movies released within the past few years, who wouldv’e known that a gay superhero can join the league?
And now, thanks to comics like Ultimate Spider-Man, it looks like Gay could possibly join their ranks.
In case you missed it, Marvel Comics revealed earlier this week that a half-black, half-latino teenager by the name of Miles Morales would be the new Spider-Man for their “Ultimate” universe. While diversity exists in the super-hero realm, Morales certainly takes the cake now for being the highest-profile minority in tights. Amidst the media field-day over this progressive, and somewhat polarizing move, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man artist Sara Pichelli said this to USA Today:
"Maybe sooner or later a black or gay — or both — hero will be considered something absolutely normal."
Until this new marvel hero reaches it’s existent, we’re just going to wave that rainbow flag and pretty soon add a spider to it calling it the amazingly gay Spider Man.
CURRENT EVENT: Slew of Violence Against Gay Men in Long Beach, Another Hate Crime
It seems that gay hate crimes throughout the country continue to surface. Recent reports in Long Beach, California, claim that another “gay beating” has taken place, one of which is considered classified as a hate crime.
The Long Beach Police Department amped security in the city’s Broadway Corridor — the section of downtown known for its thriving gay community, where all three incidents occurred.
On July 24, a man allegedly walked up to another man, asked if he was gay, and then beat him after the victim answered in the affirmative, says Sgt. Rico Fernandez, a spokesman for the police department. Police arrested a suspect, Jorge Jhovanoy Ibarria, that night and the District Attorney’s office has filed one felony count of battery with a hate crime enhancement against Ibarria, Fernandez says.
A few days later, a male suspect approached another man who was walking on a sidewalk in the area, Fernandez says. The two men exchanged some words and then the suspect hit the victim and left, Fernandez says. The suspect used some slurs during the exchange, but police don’t believe the violence started because the victim was gay, Fernandez says. Therefore, police are considering it a hate incident, but not a hate crime.
The third incident, which happened Sunday, involved two groups. Two suspects approached a group of gay men and made some derogatory comments, which led to a fistfight, Fernandez says. The two suspects then left, but came back with more people and assaulted the victims. Police haven’t classified the incident yet, as the investigation is ongoing, Fernandez says. Nobody is currently in custody for the second or third incidents. Despite the proximity of the incidents — all within a few days of one another and all in the same basic area — the police don’t think they’re related. “We think it’s just an unfortunate series of events,” Fernandez says, adding that hate crimes are very rare in Long Beach. “This year alone we’ve only had four hate crimes.” What is going on? Why are people hating and discriminating against one’s sexual orientation? What do you think the limitation is from direct hate to actually becomming a hate crime?

CURRENT EVENTS: GAY MARRIAGE BREAKS A NEW RECORD OF SUPPORT
A new bi-partisan study confirms that first time, support for gay marriage generally outweighs opposition, and the rate of increase is startling. According to the study, the rate of increase in support for gay marriage accelerated to 5 percent per year in 2010 and 2011. To compare between 1996 and 2009, this rate was less than 1 percent.
So what does this mean? According to the report, “A secondary analysis of public polling on marriage shows support has increased over the years and that the rate of increase has accelerated dramatically in the last two years.”
Also notable is the age demographic breakup – 68 percent of 18-29 year-olds support gay marriage, (up 11 points since 2005). Older adults, while still generally opposing marriage equality, have grown closer to support. Only 33 percent of adults 65 and older are in support, but this is up from a mere 18 percent in 2005.
The authors of the findings are Republican Dr. Jan van Lohuizen of Voter Consumer Research, who worked for President George W. Bush’s presidential campaigns and Democrat Joel Benenson, who was the lead pollster and a senior strategist for President Barack Obama in the 2008 election.
This should be striking news to many of the LGBT couples who have either tied-the-knot or are planning on. Our support within a decade and our words to wed are finally showing in numbers.
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Kelly Clarkson Joins girl group "Already Famous"
"Since You’ve Been Gone Singer" Kelly Clarkson is back and not alone! In a surprising move, Clarkson is joining forces with her two backup singers to create “Already Famous“. She follows in the footsteps of Miranda Lambert, who also recently created a girl group side project.
So who are these girls that Kelly Clarkson decided to join forces with? Joining Clarkson on Already Famous are longtime friends Jill Pickering and Kate Rapier. The trio have already hit the studio and begun to record new music. It has also been evident that they premiered a small snippet of one of their songs via Twitter called, “I’m Not the Only One.” They mention that it is a ballad that seems to take more indie-pop route than Kelly’s previously released solo music.
What do you think Is this a smart move for Kelly Clarkson to keep (and jump start) her career? Or will this be a dead end for our first and original American Idol?
CURRENT EVENTS: COLUMBIA COURT DEMANDS MARRIAGE EQUIVALENT FOR SAME SEX COUPLES BY 2013
It seems like ever since New York legalized gay marriage, other areas within the country are up for the demands of this change as well!
According to the 365gay.com, Gay Columbians have two years to wait for gay marriage or another similar type of union, after their Constitutional Court ruled that marriage equality should exist.
Last week, the court decided to give the legislature until June 20, 2013 to establish an equivalent to same-sex couples who want to get married. Here’s the best part, if the legislature does not come up with a decision by then, gay couples will be able to go to any notary public or judge to formalize their union. Sounds like it is going to be an inevitable dream for many couples!
What do you think? Should Columbia enforce this demand? Should other states follow in their footsteps?
